Red light – When/how to use each lamp?
Red light
Red light is ideally used when it is dark outside. For the body, this moment naturally marks the transition from activity to rest. Whereas daylight and blue light activate the body, red light helps you slow down and prepare for the night.
At Alina, we do not see red light as a trend, but as a logical extension of how light naturally works.
At the end of the day, the natural light around us changes. The sun is low, the light becomes warmer and contains increasingly less blue. This is no coincidence: the human body is evolutionarily attuned to this transition.
Red light aligns with this natural process. Unlike blue and white artificial light:
-
red light does not disrupt melatonin production
-
promotes relaxation
-
helps the body recognize that the day is coming to an end
You can think of red light as the artificial equivalent of the red evening sun: soft, low-stimulation and calming, while blue light acts more like bright midday light that switches the body “on”.

When do you use red light?
-
As soon as it becomes dark outside
-
In the evening while relaxing, reading or watching TV
-
During nighttime moments (using the bathroom, in the nursery)
-
As an alternative to standard artificial light in the evening
The goal is not to avoid light entirely, but to use the right light at the right time.
