Enracinement: becoming one with the earth

Grounding - Hippie or revolutionary?

The term "grounding" is gaining popularity, and rightly so. More and more studies are highlighting its beneficial effects on health. We, like our customers, are amazed by this wonderful, almost addictive sensation. It makes us feel like our shoes are a prison for our feet.

What exactly does grounding involve? It simply means walking barefoot directly on the ground. Water, sand, and natural stones are also suitable. Although this may seem a little far-fetched (and not really like advice for better sleep), we invite you to read on carefully... After all, we all want to improve our health and the quality of our sleep!

Why on the ground?

What actually happens is a kind of exchange of electrons. When you "ground" yourself, you absorb negative electrons from the earth. These neutralize the positive charge in your body. Why is this important? Well, because we live in a world saturated with electromagnetic fields that, in a way, "charge" us, so it makes sense that we need to "discharge" ourselves from time to time. Think of devices plugged into electrical outlets, power poles, and telephones. Electromagnetic radiation (EMR) is an important phenomenon, but we will discuss it in more detail in this blog post dedicated EMF . It may seem a little vague, but there is now a lot of scientific evidence to support this phenomenon. When you "ground" yourself, you absorb these negative electrons, which neutralize the positive ones in your body. It's a bit like the antioxidants in food that neutralize free radicals (harmful substances). By neutralizing this positive charge, we reduce inflammation in our bodies. And inflammation is actually the cause of almost all diseases. So "grounding" is a free, calorie-free source of antioxidants.

We weren't born 100,000 years ago wearing Nike Air Max shoes. We were born barefoot. So it seems perfectly logical that we should be connected to the source of life: the earth. Synthetic rubber was invented in 1960 and quickly became the norm for most shoes. However, this material is not conductive. This prevents us from dissipating our energy... and causes problems, particularly in terms of the quality of our sleep.

How does grounding work?

Chemical reactions involving electrical charges occur constantly in our bodies. Some of these reactions can lead to the formation of free radicals. Free radicals are atoms or molecules with an unpaired electron, which makes them highly reactive and allows them to easily react with other molecules in the body. This causes inflammation. Inflammation causes stress, both physical and mental. When inflammation occurs, the body naturally produces cortisol. Grounding reduces inflammation and, as a result, stress. It is well known that stress interferes with sleep. Would you like to learn more about stress? Click here . Grounding can help you relieve stress and get a good night's sleep!

Origin of Grounden

The concept is not new, but this practice has regained its importance in modern times thanks to its many benefits. The history of grounding dates back to ancient times, when people walked barefoot and were in direct contact with the earth. In ancient cultures, the earth was considered sacred and contact with the ground was highly prized. In the Indian Ayurvedic tradition, for example, walking on grass was considered an important gesture for everyday health. But history is full of examples of peoples who wore shoes connected to the earth. Often, these shoes contained copper, and a piece of copper was in contact with the ground. Did they know more than we think?

Improve your biorhythm

By connecting to the earth, we can balance our circadian rhythm. This rhythm, our internal clock, regulates our sleep-wake cycle and helps us maintain a regular sleep pattern. Exposure to natural light during the day and darkness at night helps maintain this rhythm. Connecting to the earth can also contribute to this, as it induces a state of relaxation and promotes better sleep. A well-regulated internal clock allows for deeper sleep. When in contact with the earth, our internal clock resets and becomes more attuned to the environment. This is why connecting to the earth can also help mitigate the effects of jet lag... But that's a topic for the blog post dedicated to biorhythms. (PMID: 22291721 )

Here are the benefits of four nights of deep sleep. Amazing! The inflammation has decreased significantly.

What is the best way to connect to the earth?

The most common technique is simply to walk barefoot on grass. Twenty to thirty minutes a day is enough to absorb all the electrons you need and rebalance your body. Grass is one of the best ways to reconnect with the earth, as everyone can access it within a five-minute walk. Note: artificial turf is not a good conductor and will therefore be ineffective.

Stones can also be used for grounding, especially those that are naturally electrically charged, such as granite or quartz. Walking on stones is therefore a good method of grounding. Ideally, the stones should be slightly damp, as this improves conduction. (I hope you paid attention in physics and chemistry class😉 )

However, nothing beats the sea. This is where electrons are most easily absorbed and neutralized by the body. What's more, the sea is excellent for the skin and provides a large amount of magnesium. It contains more than 70 minerals that the body can absorb while swimming. In short, it's a real boon in every way.

We understand that it's not pleasant to go in the water or walk on the grass in winter. Three options: do it anyway, go to a warm country in winter, or use a groundsheet?

A solution for everything

Grounding, grounding mats... you're probably wondering what they are. However, these mats can significantly improve your sleep. Made of conductive material, these mats connect to the earth. When in contact with the earth, they allow grounding and the absorption of electrons. Many people are concerned because the mat is connected to an electrical outlet. However, apart from contact with the grounding pins, there is no contact with the electrical system. There is therefore no risk of electrocution. In fact, even in the event of an electric shock while using the mat, the energy would be discharged to the ground via the outlet. The mat is therefore completely safe. (PMID: 36672565)

So, the grounding mat is the solution! Time-saving? Absolutely! You can use it while you sleep. Effective? Without a doubt! Sleeping while connected to the earth reduces stress and inflammation for a third of your life. So, while you enjoy a restful sleep, the grounding mat works discreetly to reduce your stress levels. Sleep well and wake up feeling more peaceful!

The Alina grounding mat is designed to fit a double bed. More and more grounding mats are appearing on the market, but they are usually simple mats. We used to use them too. However, this solution is not feasible, especially for homeless people. That is why we now offer a grounding mat that stays in place.

Conclusion

By connecting to the earth, we can balance our circadian rhythm. This rhythm is our internal clock that regulates our sleep-wake cycle and helps us maintain a regular sleep pattern. Exposure to natural light during the day and darkness at night helps maintain this rhythm. Grounding can also contribute to this, as it induces a state of relaxation and promotes better sleep. Contact with the earth resets our sleep cycle, reducing disturbances and the effects of jet lag. Grounding also informs us about our time zone.

In summary, grounding is an ancient practice that helps us balance our bodies and connect with the natural energy of the Earth. It helps regulate our circadian rhythm and reduce inflammation. It is a simple method for relaxing the body and mind, promoting restful sleep.

In the documentary about Clint Ober's discovery of grounding, you will learn about a study he conducted in collaboration with an anesthesiologist, which involved grounding 60 people suffering from various ailments. This documentary will clear up any misunderstandings about grounding. We recommend watching it for a better understanding. Simply reading about it may seem vague. If you have any questions, we are always available and happy to help. Are you looking for a grounding routine? We would be happy to assist you. Because time is never an issue, only priorities matter.
